13 weeks 36 hrs/wk 7a-7:30p Job Title: MR Technologist Department/Subsidiary: Radiology - MRI Effective Date: January 2023 Job Code: Y0387 JOB SUMMARY The MR Technologist maintains all standards of the Magnetic Resonance (MR) Area as established by the Department of Radiology ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY A. Reports to: MR Supervisor B. Supervises: N/A C. Key Working Relationships: Radiologists, Nursing Units, Radiology Staff, Emergency Department, Emergency Center D. Primary Customer Groups: General Public, Medical Staff, Patients, and families. E. Age/Population of Patients Served: Neonatal Adolescent Geriatric Pediatric Adult X All Ages ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS A. Accurately identifies and transports patients to and from MR B. Prepares patient and scan room for MR procedures. Completes required consents and/or checklists/forms. Performs venipuncture on patients from adolescent to geriatric patients. C. Assists Mercy One Radiology office with scheduling of MR exams. Reviews MR protocol with Radiologist. Responds to telephone inquiries and provides accurate information to customers of all age groups. D. Ensures the safety of all persons entering MR. Instructs others on MR safety policies and procedures. E. Performs Radiology Information System (RIS) and Hospital Information System (HIS) functions. Ensures proper billing for MR exams. F. Completes MR-related clerical functions and PACS functions. Saves, verifies, and performs all image manipulation on PACS for each patient scanned. Sends images to StatRad and verifies patient information during designated hours. G. Attends to restocking of linen and supplies. Assists with cleaning of magnets, coils and other equipment. Performs and monitors quality assurance measures in MR. H. Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers. I. Maintains documentation for American Registry of Radiologic Technologists clinical competencies for MR. J. Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations. K. Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments. L. Takes an active role in enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development and participates in medical center and/or departmental education programs. M. Communicates with and performs duties following the philosophy of Mercy One North Iowa and the Sisters of Mercy reflecting the organization’s Mission, Values, and Cultural Beliefs. N. Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment. O. Performs other responsibilities as requested by supervisor, manager, or department head. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS 1. Is prepared to assume responsibility for the MR Area in the absence of the Supervisor. 2. Assists with training and education of MRI interns and Radiology students 3. Assists in other areas of Radiology if necessary. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS A. Education [formal]: 1. Must be credentialed in Radiology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). 2. Must be credentialed in Magnetic Resonance by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or must be board eligible. Must complete boards within 12 months of hire date. B. Experience: Must have demonstrated competencies as a Diagnostic Radiographer. Previous MR or CT experience preferred C. Special Skills and Competencies: 1. May be required to alternate shifts. 2. May be required to take call. 3. Must be able to read, write and/or speak English. X Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintains current status. X Must provide proof of Mandatory Reporting for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training prior to employment or within 6 months of hire and maintain current status per State of Iowa guidelines NA Completes Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status. NA Completes Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status. NA Completes Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status. NA Completes MANDT Training within 6 months of hire and maintains current status. NA Completes Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.
